Minelab’s Metal Detecting Accessories: Practical or Comical?

As metal detecting continues to grow in popularity, it’s no surprise that companies like Minelab are stepping up their game when it comes to accessories and parts for their machines. However, some of these products may leave you scratching your head or rolling your eyes.

Let’s start with the Minelab Pro-Swing 45 Harness. This harness is designed to distribute the weight of your detector evenly across your body, taking pressure off of one shoulder. While this sounds like a practical idea, the execution leaves something to be desired. The harness features multiple straps and buckles that seem more suited for a rock climbing expedition than a leisurely day of metal detecting. And let’s not forget about the added bonus of looking like a Ghostbuster while wearing it.

Next up is the Minelab Excalibur II Hip Mount Kit. This kit allows you to attach your Excalibur II detector to your hip instead of holding it by hand or using a traditional shaft mount. While this might seem like a convenient option for some people, others have found that it leads to awkward bending and maneuvering while trying to detect targets on uneven terrain.

Moving on from accessories, let’s talk about parts – specifically the Minelab Equinox 600/800 Replacement Battery Cover. This cover is meant as a replacement for the original battery cover that comes with your Equinox machine if it gets lost or damaged. It seems like a simple enough product until you realize that it costs nearly $50! That’s right – almost half the price of an entire new battery itself.

Last but not least is perhaps the most ridiculous accessory yet: The Minelab Go-Find Backpack! Yes, you read that correctly – there is now an official backpack made specifically for carrying around your Go-Find metal detector (which already folds up into its own compact size). Not only does this seem unnecessary given how easy Go-Finds are to transport in general, but it also costs over $60. Save your money and buy a regular backpack instead.

All in all, Minelab’s accessories and parts can be hit or miss. While some may find them useful, others may find them completely unnecessary or even comical. As always, do your research before making any purchases to ensure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck – and not just a fancy Ghostbuster harness.
