Pulse Induction (PI) metal detectors are designed to ignore small objects such as bottle caps, nails or pull tabs that would otherwise trigger conventional VLF (Very Low Frequency) machines’ response. PI detectors are capable of detecting metallic objects buried deeper in the ground without interference from smaller trash items near the surface.

7. Discrimination
Discrimination is another technique used by most modern metal detectors, which allows us to set up target ID discrimination settings according to our preference based on what we want to find and what we don’t need. By discriminating against unwanted materials such as aluminum foil or iron nails, we can focus our search more efficiently on finding valuable targets like coins or jewelry.

8. Pinpointers
Pinpointers are handheld devices that help detectorists locate specific targets with greater precision once they’ve identified them using their primary detector’s readings. These portable tools emit an audible beep or vibration when held close enough to a target object, making it easier for us to pinpoint its location accurately and avoid unnecessary digging around potential trash items.

While these techniques might seem simple at first glance, they have evolved over time through trial and error by detectorists looking for better ways of separating trash from treasure more efficiently.
