As a writer and journalist, I always try to bring humor in my articles. Today, we will talk about a serious issue that has been the center of attention for quite some time now – Racial Profiling. But before we start, let’s have a little fun.
Imagine you are going on vacation with your family to Hawaii. You’re excited, looking forward to all the beach activities and delicious food. As you reach the airport and head towards security check-in, you see two lines – one for regular screening and another for TSA PreCheck. You remember signing up for TSA PreCheck since it saves time and hassle-free.
You confidently walk towards the TSA PreCheck line when suddenly an officer stops you and asks if he can see your passport/ID card. Confused but still confident, you present him with your ID card only to hear him say “Sorry sir! This line is not meant for people like you.”
You look around confused while others pass by without any questions asked. That’s when it hits you; You were racially profiled!
Racial profiling is defined as using race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offense or crime. It’s not just limited to airports but also happens in various other situations such as driving while black/brown, shopping at high-end stores wearing casual clothes or even walking down the street.
It’s frustrating when people judge us based on our skin color rather than our actions or character traits. We’re living in 2021 where everyone should be treated equally regardless of their race or ethnicity.
Nowadays, racial profiling has become a hot topic among metal detecting enthusiasts too! Yes! You heard it right!
Metal detecting has become more popular over recent years due to its ability to uncover hidden treasures that have been buried underground for decades or even centuries! But what does this have to do with racial profiling?
Well..as a metal detectorist myself (yes, that’s what we call ourselves!), I have seen instances where people of color are not taken seriously or are often questioned when metal detecting. It’s ridiculous to think that someone’s passion for metal detecting could be judged based on their skin color.
Metal detecting is a hobby enjoyed by people from all walks of life, and it should not matter if you’re black, white, brown or any other race!
So whether you’re a beginner or an experienced detectorist, always remember this – NEVER judge anyone based on their race, ethnicity or skin color! We should treat everyone with respect and dignity regardless of who they are.
In conclusion, racial profiling is a serious issue that needs to be addressed at all levels. As metal detectorists (or as humans), we need to stand up against racism in every form and fight for equality.
