Discrimination is a social issue that has been prevalent in society for centuries. As metal detector enthusiasts and members of a larger community of hobbyists who share this passion with us, it’s important to recognize and address discrimination within our own hobby. In the metal detecting world specifically there have been cases where certain groups felt excluded from participating in some events; sometimes women may not feel welcome at these events which could make them hesitant to participate fully in activities like treasure hunting which requires significant time investment etc., In other instances minority ethnicities might feel unwanted while interacting with fellow detectorists making them feel isolated and less inclined to participate in events.
However, there are steps we can take as a community to combat discrimination. Below are some ways we can promote equality within our hobby:

5. Create safe spaces- Organizers of metal detecting events can create safe spaces where all members can interact without fear of discrimination such as having anti-discrimination policies at event sites/gatherings etc.,
6. Embrace Differences- As participants, it is important that everyone recognizes that each person comes with their own unique set of skills hence respecting one another regardless of background differences which could lead to positive experiences during treasure hunting activities
