The Absurdity of Ski Resorts: Overpriced, Crowded, and Entitled

Ski resorts are often seen as the epitome of luxury and winter fun. However, when you take a closer look, they can also be quite absurd. From overpriced lift tickets to crowded slopes, there’s plenty to poke fun at when it comes to these snowy playgrounds.

Firstly, let’s talk about the prices. It seems like ski resorts have adopted a “pay-to-play” mentality where visitors have to shell out hundreds of dollars just for access to the mountain. And don’t even get me started on the cost of renting equipment or taking lessons – it’s enough to make your bank account cry.

Then there are the crowds. Sure, skiing is supposed to be a social activity that brings people together. But when you’re elbowing your way through throngs of skiers and snowboarders just to get on a lift, things start feeling less cozy and more chaotic.

And let’s not forget about all those entitled skiers who think they own the mountain. You know who I’m talking about – the ones who cut in line or refuse to share space on a run because they’re going too fast for anyone else’s comfort level.

But it’s not just other people that make ski resorts ridiculous; sometimes it’s nature itself. Take snowmaking for example – while it may seem like an innovative way to extend ski season, in reality it involves spraying gallons upon gallons of water into freezing temperatures until ice crystals form…all so that people can slide down a man-made slope instead of waiting for natural snowfall.

And then there are those pesky chairlifts which always seem poised to break down at any moment – leaving riders dangling high above ground with nothing but their thoughts (and maybe some frostbite) for company.

But perhaps one of the most nonsensical aspects of ski culture is après-ski fashion. Who decided that wearing fur boots and designer sunglasses was necessary after hitting the slopes? And why do we feel the need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on clothing that’s only meant to be worn for a few hours at a time?

Despite all these absurdities, ski resorts continue to attract visitors year after year. Maybe it’s because there’s something inexplicably thrilling about flying down a mountain at breakneck speeds or maybe it’s just because we’re all suckers for a good hot cocoa.

Either way, as long as people are willing to pay top dollar for access to these winter wonderlands, ski resorts will continue to exist – and we’ll continue to laugh (or cry) at their inherent ridiculousness.
