In simple terms, Ground Balance Adjustment refers to the process of calibrating your metal detector’s sensitivity to different types of soil or mineralization. It allows you to adjust for changes in soil composition and reduce false signals caused by minerals in the ground.

Why do You Need Ground Balancing?

Ground balancing is necessary because different soils have varying levels of mineralization that can interfere with detecting metals. For instance, highly-mineralized soils like saltwater beaches or volcanic rocks can cause false signals on your metal detector and make it challenging to identify actual targets.

How Does Ground Balancing Work?

Most modern-day metal detectors feature an automatic ground balance setting which adjusts itself based on the type of soil it detects. However, if you’re using an older model without these features, manual adjustments are necessary.

To manually adjust your device’s ground balance settings:

1) Start by testing your unit over a piece of clean land.

2) Next, switch off any other discrimination features and set the sensitivity level at maximum for better results.

3) Hold down the ‘GB’ button until it starts flashing or displays a message indicating “Manual GB.”

4) Lower and raise the coil above and below 6 inches from the surface while holding onto this button until you see a stable reading between 0 – 99 on your screen display.

5) Release GB once you get a stable reading within this range for accurate detection performance as part of its calibration routine before proceeding with treasure hunting activity!
