When using a metal detector, it’s important to adjust the sensitivity settings based on the terrain you are searching. If set too high in certain terrains, such as highly mineralized soil or near power lines, this can cause false signals and reduce detection depth. On the other hand, if sensitivity is set too low in areas with less mineralization or conductivity, valuable targets might be missed.

In areas with high mineralization levels, such as beaches or heavily mined areas, reducing the sensitivity level will help avoid unwanted interference from minerals like iron. This will allow for better target identification and increased accuracy when detecting metals such as gold or silver buried deep within these extreme terrains.

In contrast, when searching in low-mineralized soils like parks or fields away from power lines, increasing your sensitivity setting can help detect smaller targets that may otherwise go unnoticed by your device.

It’s important to note that environmental factors like temperature fluctuations also play a role in determining optimal sensitivity settings for different terrains. In colder temperatures especially below 40 degrees Fahrenheit lowering your device’s sensitivity helps eliminate signal noise caused by thermal conductance.

Overall adjusting your metal detector’s sensitivity according to terrain conditions makes searches more effective while minimizing false signals thereby enhancing one’s chances of finding treasure.
