Robert Downey Jr. is a name that needs no introduction in the entertainment industry. Born on April 4th, 1965, in Manhattan, New York City, Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor and producer who has won numerous awards throughout his illustrious career.

Early Life
As mentioned above, Robert was born in Manhattan and grew up in Greenwich Village with his parents; both were actors themselves. His father, Robert Downey Sr., was known for making underground films while his mother Elsie Ann Ford was also an actress.
Growing up around show business must have influenced young Robert’s passion for acting because by the time he was five years old; he already made his first appearance in one of his father’s films titled “Pound” (1970).
At just ten years old, young Robert had already started abusing drugs such as marijuana and cocaine which would later lead him down a path of destruction.
Career Beginnings
Despite growing up around show business and having acted since childhood. It wasn’t until after high school that Robert decided to fully pursue acting professionally.

Despite all this success though; there are still those who criticize RDJ for playing characters who use drugs or alcohol excessively considering his past history with substance abuse.
