When this magnetic field encounters a conductive object buried beneath the surface—such as coins or relics—the object itself disrupts the electromagnetic field, creating eddy currents. These eddy currents produce a secondary magnetic field that is then detected by the receiving loop of the concentric coil.

The key advantage of the concentric coil lies in its ability to detect and discriminate between targets with varying sizes and conductivities. Due to the overlapping nature of the coils, they create a more concentrated search area directly beneath the center of the coil. This makes it easier to pinpoint small or shallow targets accurately.

Moreover, concentric coils offer superior target separation compared to other types of coils such as Double-D (DD) or mono coils. Target separation refers to a detector’s ability to distinguish between multiple objects located close together—a critical feature when searching for specific artifacts amidst debris or trash-filled areas.

Another benefit provided by concentric coils is their improved sensitivity towards smaller targets. The focused detection area allows for greater depth penetration, enabling users to uncover buried treasures that may have been missed using other detector configurations.

For instance, advanced models now include adjustable frequency options that optimize performance across different soil conditions – further expanding their versatility for metal detecting enthusiasts around the world.
