1. Ferrous Metals:

2. Non-Ferrous Metals:
Non-ferrous metals do not contain iron and are generally resistant to corrosion. They tend to retain their shine even after being buried for long periods. Non-ferrous metals commonly encountered while metal detecting include copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, lead, nickel, tin, and zinc.

3. Aluminum:
Aluminum is lightweight and highly malleable with low strength compared to other metals. It often appears silver in color but can also be found in shades of gray or black due to oxidation over time.

4. Copper:
Copper has been used for centuries due to its excellent conductivity and resistance to corrosion. It typically appears reddish-brown or green when oxidized (forming patina). Copper artifacts such as coins or jewelry can yield significant value if discovered intact.

5. Brass:
Brass is an alloy composed primarily of copper and zinc with varying percentages of each element affecting its coloration (e.g., yellow brass contains more zinc). Brass items may resemble gold at first glance but have a lower weight compared to genuine gold objects.

6. Bronze:
Bronze is another copper-based alloy consisting mainly of copper combined with tin; however, it may also contain other elements such as aluminum or nickel. Bronze artifacts are often associated with historical and archaeological finds due to their durability and aesthetic appeal.

7. Lead:
Lead is a dense, soft metal that appears grayish in color. It has been used for various purposes throughout history but is less common today due to health concerns. While lead objects may not hold much monetary value, they can provide valuable insights into past human activities.

8. Nickel:
Nickel is a silver-white metal often used in the production of coins, jewelry, and stainless steel alloys. Its resistance to corrosion makes it an attractive choice for outdoor applications.

9. Zinc:
Zinc is a bluish-white metal that resembles tin or pewter in appearance. It is commonly used as a protective coating (galvanization) on iron or steel objects to prevent rusting.
